Top Ten Signs You’re a Fundamentalist Christian

22 03 2008

From Evil Bible.com

10 – You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 – You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 – Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees!

6 – You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 – You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 – You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering.  And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”

3 – While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.

2 – You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers.  You consider that to be evidence that prayer works.  And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 – You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history – but still call yourself a Christian.

Let’s just let God’s words do the talking:

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Proverbs 1:7 ¶The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1 Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

I pray that God will impart unto you enough wisdom and faith to understand who he is.

First off, thanks for reading/commenting Muse.

Second off, I appreciate and all that you can quote the Bible (so can I) but it’s hardly a way to make an argument. Argumentum ad verecundiam is what it is called (appeal to authority). Just because the Bible says this, and the Bibile says that, does not make it true.

Try a logical argument and I will respond with my own.

Mitchell:

This is where you fall short….the word of God is truth. Read and understand this verse…..1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Your wisdom is made foolishness by the word of God.

If that is not logical……….well…..there is no logic.

The bible is not the word of god. It’s written by men, although possibility inspired by communication with God, it’s still only that persons interpretation of what they believe God told them. It was never meant to be a rule book for the rest of humankind to follow for eternity. And since the Bible has changed repeatedly over the centuries, depending on the agenda of who was heading the church and the world at the time, it is illogically to assume that the words of men are the words of god. The ability to quote the bible does not give one wisdom or logic. God gave me the ability to learn from him/her/them directly, I don’t need a book, church or minister to interpret that for me. This top ten listing is one of the best I’ve seen. It’s okay for Christians to believe as they wish, but apparently everyone else must be condemned of they don’t agree.

Sadly those who can quote the bible, rarely understand what the words mean.

Cindi,

If you feel condemned….it is the word of God that condemns you not me. I will pray that God will impart unto you “his wisdom” and not earthly wisdom. The word teaches that if anyone lacks wisdom, to pray and God will impart unto them a spiritual wisdom. I leave with you some scripture in response to your post:

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Jesus himself told Satan that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that preceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Proverbs 1:7 ¶The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8:5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

1 Corinthians 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

I pray that God will touch you in a special way.

Hi Mitchel,

evrything ok with you? I hope I now can be more regular (been blogging mostly on a national blog), and comment more. I will also try to re-re-start Wos.

Well my comment goes to Muse:
Sorry but have you ever eard the voice of God? Or read the word(s) of God? The only piece of evidence of some of the God writings and humans got it lost! So you have no evidence and yet you think that the bible is the truth!

Another question:
“1 Corinthians 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise..”

Isn’t God wise?

And the Final question:

Is it your God allmighty?

All sinners who “want” to live a sinful life reject the word of God. They have to…or else they are condemned. By rejecting the word of God…..they can fool themselves and feel good about themselves because if they believe God’s word is not true….they don’t feel condemned. Yes Mitchell, God is “wise”…..if you will read “his word” in context…you would understand that he is referring to the natural man. God says that if any man lacks wisdom….ask…and he will give you wisdom. I will pray on your behalf.

2 04 2008
Stran

First of all:

“All sinners who “want” to live a sinful life reject the word of God. They have to…or else they are condemned.” So what you are actually saying is that by rejecting the word of God a sinner is not condemned. (In your words if they not reject “they are condemned”).

Second, and finnally, you did not yet respond to the question: “Is it your God all-mighty?”

2 04 2008
Muse

Stran,

No….I am not saying that sinners who reject the word of God are not condemned…..that is what you are saying. if you would actually “read” what I said….you would see that I said they fool fool or deceive themselves into thinking they are doing nothing wrong. Again, it is the “word” that condemns one’s conscious…..!

I would be glad to answer your question…but it makes no sense. Is it your God all-mighty…..makes no sense. Are you asking is the God I serve all-mighty…or are you giving reference to “your?” If you can clarify a bit….I will respond.

Stran

1-You said “They have to…or else they are condemned.” Probably a mistake from your part, but nothing to worry.

2-The God you believe in, is He all-mighty? Can He do anything?

3 04 2008
Muse

Stran,

I know this is a lot of scripture to post, but it answers your first question. You see…people claim to know God (verse 21) but choose not to acknowledge him as deity and his word as absolute truth or else they are condemned.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

To answer your second question….the God I serve is All-Mighty…..but there are some things he cannot do. Such as: lie, sin, or change……things his word mentions he cannot do.

3 04 2008
Stran

“the God I serve is All-Mighty” and “but there are some things he cannot do”, So he isnt’t All-Mighty. But if he cannot lie how can he say He is All-Mighty?

Also the “Word” of God says:

“30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death…”

But if God created the Man and Man are evil then God is the an “inventor of evil things”. In His own “Word” is God “worthy of death”?

3 04 2008
Muse

So what you are saying Stran…is that if God could “lie”…that would make him All-Mighty….? if that is what you are saying…..you have no clue “who” God is according to his word. The fact that God can’t lie to you makes him All-Mighty. That is why we have faith in him. It is man who is the liar….do you like people to lie to you? Your thinking and theology is weak. Once again you try to make God’s word conform to your life style…instead of you life style conforming to God’s word.

No…God did not create “evil”….he created man…..man chose to become evil through sin. Sin is disobedience toward God’s will. Read Genesis….you will get the whole story.

3 04 2008
Stran

Probably I am mistaken but what exactly means “All-Mighty”?

I think that you shouldn’t manipulate the “Word” of God. He said “inventor of evil things”. The logic is quite simple “Man does Evil” –» “God created Man” –» “God inventor of evil things”

But by the way who created evil?

3 04 2008
Muse

First let me say I have not in any way manipulated the scriptures…I just quoted them. If you point out where I have “manipulated” the word…I will address that also.

Who created evil….well technically Satan did…..and that is why God cast him out of heaven, but that is outside the theological discussion here:

So lets look at Genesis:

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
31
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

So we see that Man was “good” in God’s eyes.

Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 ¶And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

So as the scripture teaches….Satan deceives Eve into eating the “forbidden fruit”….thus by man’s transgressions enters sin and evil. God did create the tree of knowledge of good and evil…..but, that evil would have never entered this world had man not chose evil over good.

7 04 2008
Stran

“Who created evil….well technically Satan did…..and that is why God cast him out of heaven, but that is outside the theological discussion here:”

Sorry but I don’t think so. But how do you know this? Is there any passage in the Bible that tells you that Evil was created by Satan? Or are you just thinking it is like that?

Also important is to know how did Satan appear. Was he created by God or did Satan always existed just as God.

Second and also important, who created the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil”? And why God did not wanted Man to know about good and evil? And why did God forbid Man to eat from this tree?

“Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image…” What do you mean with us? Who is there that is not God?

Finnaly you did not answer what you mean about He being All-mighty?

And also one thing is important to know is if God is the creator of all things that exist.

Hope to read from you soon,

Stran,

We will have to dig into the scripture and take a look at the “pre-adamite world to answer some of your questions.

We see in Ezekiel 28: 11-19 that God did create Satan and Satan acended into heaven to try to be equal with God and God cast him back to earth.

Ezekiel 28:11-19
11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

In the above passage, we are told that Satan was perfect from the very first day he was created by God until sin and iniquity were found in him as a direct result (according to Isaiah 14:12-17) of pride which came over him because of his power and beauty and importance as the premier angel throughout the universe. Verse 16 continues by saying that Satan was cast out of the mountain or Kingdom of God and banished from the stars of Heaven, and that someday (according to Revelation) he will be cast out permanently, forever. Verse 18 states that Satan and his kingdom subjects worshipped God in sanctuaries or tabernacles which gave Satan the opportunity to slander God through traffick which led to his iniquity, and later, the iniquity of his earthly subjects and a third part of the heavenly angels.

saiah gives us additional information:

Isaiah 14:12-17
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? (KJV)

Satan is portrayed as ruler of the nations on earth until he experienced his moral and physical fall. He “didst weaken the nations” through the use of slander against God (cf. Ezek. 28:16-18), eventually corrupting the hearts of all the people on earth and a third (Rev. 12:4, 9) of the angels in Heaven. He even went so far as to incite open rebellion against God, and “ascend(ed) above the heights of the clouds” and “ascend(ed) into heaven” in order to “exalt (his) throne above the stars of God” and “be like the most High.” However, he was quickly and surely “cut down to the ground” by God.

This scriptural passage proves beyond any reasonable doubt that there were nations of people inhabiting earth at the time Satan rebelled against God, and that Satan succeeded in causing them to rebel with him. The phrase, “which didst weaken the nations,” makes this quite clear. Since Satan was already a morally-fallen creature when he tempted Eve in the garden of Eden, this confirms that there was a pre-Adamite civilization on earth sometime before Adam and Eve were told to “replenish” the earth.

That Satan became a morally-fallen creature before the creation of Adam and Eve explains why Hell originally was prepared for Satan and his angels (Matthew 25:41), and why Satan was busy tempting Eve in the beautiful Garden of Eden not very long after Adam and Eve were created.

To sum up….yes…God did create Satan……and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
When God said let “us” create man in “our” image…he was talking to his son Jesus Christ.

God is all-mighty because he created the heavens and the earth and the fullness thereof….he has all power in heaven and in earth.

“God did create Satan”

“30 (…) inventors of evil things…
(…)
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

This is just one of the many contraditory theme in the bible. The thought is simple if God created Satan then He was the inventor of the worst evil thing in the universe.

Also God did not created Satan as a uncurrptible thing, thus allowing him to be bad.

Finnaly, if “he has all power in heaven and in earth.” He also would have the power to stop Satan. And also the power to stop the sins, another creation of God.

Another chalenge:

Can he create a stone so heavy that no one, not even God, can lift it up?

Muse

I don’t follow your train of thought in verse 32….and as for as contradictory themes in the bible….not so. The word of God as we see in: 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.God’s word was given by God for man to live by. We will be judged by God’s word when we stand before him one day. He would never give us his word to live by if it was contradictory….and then judge us by that same word. It is man’s interpretation of God’s word that makes it contradictory at times.

Man from the beginning has always been a free moral agent…..and he has given you a way to overcome sin…..through his son Jesus Christ. As for as creating a rock he cannot life….well…we are getting into rhetoric and speculation…..neither of which has a place in this discussion.

9 04 2008
Stran

“2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

This means that all scripture is open to correction and interpretation. So everything that church tells is not mandatory (like going to church) not even the dogma.

Everything in this book becomes realative. That is good news. Forget my last question. I don’t intend to prove that God does not exists. It would be disrespectful for you since you seem a very religious person.

But I have a question, in this story how does everything ends?

9 04 2008
Muse

Stran,

“2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

The above verse is saying that God’s word is meant for people to live by…….that a person should fashion their life by the word of God. It is to instruct people how to live and to correct them when they are not living by the word.

The story ends with Jesus Christ returning to earth to claim his church…the Christians…those who have been born again. He will judge everyone according to their deeds. The Christians will inherit eternal life in heaven and the lost or unbelieving will inherit eternal damnation. Remember….God will not be mocked. What he says in his word….he will do.

muse … looks like you need some of God’s help with this one. Where did your bible come from? There are many books out there claiming to be the word of God, but none of them really are. All written books came from men. Only one script, as far as I’ve found cannot be destroyed … and that’s the Emerald Tablets. The King James version was from many sources and the reasons are extremely clear. Mass control. Religions rule the lands, not the governments. President Bush claims “God put him in charge.” But I so disagree. Diabold and lies put him in charge … and just because he said it’s so doesn’t make us right or righteous. We are in trouble because of our refusal to align ourselves with the real truth. Religion is not the truth. Go inside yourself Muse, and quit trying to impress people with your knowledge of cherry picked verses that were written out of fear of the unknowing. In one of your own cherry picked verses you have described that God is more than one person!

“Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness:…”

Just who do you suppose God was talking to? Think Zecharia Sitchin might know something you don’t? There were books before the bible.

BTW … the ten commandments were stolen from the temples of the Egyptians … they were not commandments before the Jews got hold of them, they were Committments! I WILL NOT KILL, I WILL NOT COMMIT ADULTRY, ETC.

A second second trial was that the deceased would have to recite a negative confession “when [she or] he descends to the hall of the Two Truths.” In the statement, he or she swore that they had not engaged in specific behaviors while alive. According to Egyptologist Ahmed Osman, one translation of the statement reads:

“Hail to thee, great God, Lord of the Two Truths. I have come unto thee, my Lord, that thou mayest bring me to see thy beauty. I know thee, I know thy name, I know the names of the 42 Gods who are with thee in this broad hall of the Two Truths . . . Behold, I am come unto thee. I have brought thee truth; I have done away with sin for thee. I have not sinned against anyone. I have not mistreated people. I have not done evil instead of righteousness . . .
I have not reviled the God.
I have not laid violent hands on an orphan.
I have not done what the God abominates . . .
I have not killed; I have not turned anyone over to a killer.
I have not caused anyone’s suffering . . .
I have not copulated (illicitly); I have not been unchaste.
I have not increased nor diminished the measure, I have not diminished the palm; I have not encroached upon the fields.
I have not added to the balance weights; I have not tempered with the plumb bob of the balance.
I have not taken milk from a child’s mouth; I have not driven small cattle from their herbage…
I have not stopped (the flow of) water in its seasons; I have not built a dam against flowing water.
I have not quenched a fire in its time . . .
I have not kept cattle away from the God’s property.
I have not blocked the God at his processions. 5
