Marriage Amendment – Voter Sanctioned Discrimination

8 11 2006

Colorado Amendment 43 passed.

Amendment 43 proposes adding a new section to Article II of the Colorado Constitution that defines marriage in Colorado as only a union between one man and one woman.

Recognized marriages in Colorado would be:

  1. only between a man and a woman
  2. licensed, solemnized, and registered according to pre-established procedures
  3. common law marriages only with a man and a woman who live together and hold themselves out publicly as husband and wife

Wikipedia entry.

I’m not sure democracy is such a good idea if the majority of people are close minded bigots.  I have yet to hear someone make a good argument in favor of this amendment that was not solely a religious one.  The theocracy holds.

It helps us recognize which counties need to be destroyed.

Also, the only encouraging news on this front is that this did not pass overwhelmingly, it was pretty close, and in ten years from now those voting old bigots will be gone. The measure, and ref i, had very different results if you only polled young people.
