al-Maliki – Reluctant Prime Minister or Complete Jackass?

22 08 2007

The Huffington Post has an article about Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (of Iraq) who said recently:

“No one has the right to place timetables on the Iraq government. It was elected by its people,” he said at a news conference in Damascus at the end of the three-day visit to Syria.

“Those who make such statements are bothered by our visit to Syria. We will pay no attention. We care for our people and our constitution and can find friends elsewhere,” al-Maliki said.

Without naming any American official, al-Maliki said some of the criticism of him and his government had been “discourteous.”

I’m not really one to think that the Iraqis owe us anything.  Even if you make the argument that we had the best intentions (which is questionable anyway), we fucked shit up, bad, very bad.  So let’s just say that I understand a certain amount of animosity that the Iraqi people may have for us.

That being said, I do believe that the Iraqis want more or less the same thing for their country – peace.  Al-Maliki needs to get his shit together and you know, do something.  I’m not saying we’ll overthrow his government if he doesn’t (hopefully Bush has learned something from all of this; he may be the decider, but he makes some fucking dumb decisions) but if he cares about his people not dying, he has to do something.  Call up Dubai and get the senate to come off vacation and actually all meet at the same time in the same place.

His government is supposed to have the power – it would be hard for us to place any timetables on him.  We just want people to STOP DYING.  You’d think he’d want to work with us on this matter.

All I’m saying is that yes, he is in a shitty position, he needs to reckognize that, get over it, and do something about it.

Maybe he could invent some sort of anti-religious ray gun.  Just an idea

Nothing but love, but… ‘dieing’ means to ‘impress, shape, or cut with a die.’ “Dying,” on the other hand, refers to the end of life.
