The following is two email conversations I had with people who wanted to sell me a dog. I live in Denver, which is neither in Nigeria nor Morocco, so needless to say, I was a little bit skeptical. I decided to keep emailing them until they stopped writing back. In the process I found out that you can get an email scammer to admit to almost anything; including their belief that you can mate a Maltese with a ferret and that they want to be joined in Marriage with the lyrics to the Pink Floyd song, “Money”.

LOL….I enjoyed reading the entire email contents. I happen to have a friend who is a dog lover (we belong to a same online petlover community). She received something similar to yours but this guy wrote from Australia. Same MO…just different location.
This was tooo funny. I saw something on TV about a scam involving pugs or boxers or some such flat-faced dog, but I didn’t really get it. Now I get it and I had a great laugh in the bargain.

I am in Australia, and I work at a major newspaper, processing hundreds of emails each week which are from people wanting to advertise in Classifieds.
I routinely delete up to ten emails a week referring to the sale of “AKC registered” puppies of different kinds. Many of these emails purport to be from people in Australia, who of course don’t realise they are sending to people who ARE in Australia. I only need to read the supposed contact details of these scammers for a millisecond, before deleting them. They always get the postcode wrong, or include a suburb which doesn’t exist, and they never have a logical or contactable phone number. LOSERS. These people are NOT in Australia though. PS I had a good laugh at Mitchell’s offering.
so tyhis is a funny story but listen to mine. So Ive been looking for a teacup chihuahua for a long time now. only a couple days ao i stumble along this add. it sounded prefec and I was very very gulable. This guy i had talked to about the puppy i anted sounded so sweet asking me if i was going to take care of his puppy well. you see he told me he was in africa and was on a cristian mission over there. i didnt really ever think anything about it. Im young and havent been exposed to much of this in my life. (not that Im blaiming my stupidioty on my age or anything) but anyways the og sounded perfect so i wired him the money and waited…..waited….waited…. he told me to pick it up at the airport and i waited at the airpor which was an hour and a half away from where i live. the flight agents looked at eachother and ‘oh noo another nigeria thing’ right there i wanted to just freak out. I called the guy back and he had told me that it needed a crate to fly and convinced me once again that i needed to send only $50.00 more dollars to get it and he score up and down that he would prove it. Nothing came i was fooled once again. So i told myself i didnt want to let this slip. i googled the address he’s given me (543 whesu cresent…..) and this website had popped up. right then i knew by the heading it was a scam. im upset and puppyless and out of all of this i really just wanted to have that dog. but i guess this is the way life works and these are some of the people in the world that you might stumble along everyday.
Haha this is to much, despite my girlfriend falling for this scam, as stupid as it was, reading all this made me laugh as I was doing the same to these people trying to sell me a yorkie. As of right now they are doing an investigation of it and hope to get my money back if not that then people get a little justice out of this. The guy scamming us was from Nigera as well and Kayla’s story is pretty well the exact same as mine, I need to buy a calling card to call these people with the “customs numbers” they gave me which dont match any Nigerian customs numbers as I contacted Canadian customs and they said No. I have it set up with another account where he wants me to wire him 100$ and western union will do nothing to help me with it to catch the guy who comes to pick up the money. I reported WesternUnion to the BBB and they are doing a full investigation on western union, I found out they were still sending money to these people in Nigera even though the pick up name was red flagged over a month ago, this man was still going there collecting money, Western Union is a fraud in itself. I have basically given shit to many companies to get them to help so heres hoping something comes about.

I haven’t owned a dog for years, but I’ve been looking for a flat to rent in France and had an email back in response to an advert from an individual which sounded a bit suspicious … I googled the name and arrived here. I’m really grateful that you posted these whole threads – not just for their amusement factor, but also so people like myself don’t get reeled in!
Well it appears that our Nigerian Puppy Scam guy is also into apartment scams. I came across an ad for a flat that looked too good to be true, but decided to email him anyways. Finding his reply to be extremely creepy and unusual, I ran a search on his name (Jim Buckner) and discovered he had sent someone an identical response for a fraudulent apartment ad in Paris, and then I came across this site as well, where payment for the puppy is to be made to a Jim Buckner. Note the use of the word “dear” at the beginning of the emails, as well as the religious references – obviously the same guy. Weirdo!

I recently responded to an add for a free Yorkshire Terrier puppy listed with http://www.Kijiji.ca. The man posing as (Rev. Jim Buckner) responded to my email asking for $200.00 for shipping and handling for his puppy. He told me that the puppy was registered, had all it’s shots and wouldn’t be quarantined because it was born in the United States. I”m from Canada so I was a little concerned when he said that. He now has my home email, work email and my home and work phone number. He has contacted me by phone and is very persistant on my sending the money so his puppy will have a home. I can’t believe it. So, this person is posting on the above site.

Wow so the past two days ive ran into these people and thank god I researched it all before i went though with it here is the first one that I got. I got online and did some research and i found out that the dog does not have to have traveling insurance. it just has to have a clean bill of health , which you say this puppy does. i am contacting the FBI about this. You will be turned in along with the “airline”. I know it was my own fault for falling into this trap, but what you should know is that with the $120.00 I already paid and if I paid the $580.00, that would equal an even $600.00. Thats just not right. My wife and children were so excited and you along with the airline had to do something like this. I can pretty much guarantee I will not hear back from you
But i did hear back from the airline and the lady:
Lady: the puppy is at the airport for real. the airport just mailed me and said, you spoke so rude to them.

Hello, I was reading all of the postings. My child had the same problem. She replyed to a free puppy add on freepuppylistings.com . They replied for her to send money for shipping, she sent it to a suposed to be shipping Agent. Then she e-mailed asking what is going on with my puppy, and was told it was held up because they did not have the proper shipping crate, and it would cost more money. So she sent more money and e-mailed Marry Welsh back asking when is her puppy going to be shipped. This time she was told the puppy was shipped, but there was a problem. They held the dog at customes so it caused a delay and now the costumes man wanted another $50.00. They said the puppy was shipped but before she can pick it up Marry had to pay custumes $50.00., and Marry don’t know when she will have the money. So still no puppy, but She is still promising my child she sent the puppy. Marry can not give us any info , besides the puppy will be at our airport tommarrow some time. I feel so bed for my child, I wish I could do something .

So glad you documented the series of emails and others have added to it!1 We need to be contacting the websites andletting them know that that these ads are scams and to take them off!! I too replied to an ad about a fee Yorkie puppy with identical information as you received and most of the others as well. I wrote a long letter stating a sad tale of my advanced years and having no money, just the little I have to buy food each week. I didn’t think I could find that kinda of money to pay for shipping. I waited to see if they would acknowledge anything stated, but the reply was same as before , just send the money so you can get the dog!1 Then I said I had friends in Nigeria and could come by and see the puppy to verify its existence and perhaps they could arrange the shipping themselves. Well of course that got no reply either LOL! Just send the money!! I then replied with I can’t understand why you don’t even mention the things I write to you. Are you reading them? That was the end of the transactions!! They figured this was too difficult to lie their way into the money!!
So glad that others haven’t been taken in and feel bad for those who believe the best in people and are taken advantage of!!

I was looking on a website and found an ad for 2 puppy american bulldogs for free. When I emailed the people, they told me they had relocated to Barcelona Spain and that they would have to ship the puppies to me along with the change of ownership papers, when I asked how much they said they would pay shipping cost but I would pay $98 per puppy for the ownership papers. I asked them what proof I would have that those emails weren’t a scam and I would get the puppies and they stopped emailing me. Then I found this post. Amazing! People these days.. really. Thanks guys for saving me $200!!
This person went by Dr. Morgan, not Rev. But “she” was definitely all about the God thing. “GOD BLESS YOU!” after every email and “she” said they were doing missionary work in Barcelona.

I came upon a craigslist add for a 3bdrm house at an unbelievable price. I emailed the craigslist no. & rec’d a reply from Quint Bowles listing the great amenities & attaching beautiful photos. It seemed too good to be true (which it was!). I Google-mapped the house & it was in a nice area I’m familiar w/, but the photos somehow did not match the house (of course they were indoor photos of model home). I replied to Quint asking for his phone no. so we could talk, which he gave. I was going to ask if he had an agent in town so I can look at the house when I decided to reverse look-up the phone no. When nothing turned up, I ‘googled’ it & was brought to your website. Thank you so much!!! I’m just so PO’d that these low-lifes can do this. I’m just sad for my friend as I have to start looking again for him. May that guy, “Quint”, rot in hell!! I feel bad for the people that do fall for his (& others’) scams!
My sisters found on add, and replied to it. 2 days laters they got an email. I was very suspious about it from the begining. These puppies are suppose to be in Nigeria. The ironic thing is I am dating a man from Nigeria, and is currently out there when this happened. I wanted him to go see if the lady was really there and if he could be bring them back is they existed. My sisters became impatient, and sent the money without my knowledge. I also had my sister forward me the email, looked up the shipping company, this was also the email requesting more money because the dogs, were supposely stuck in London.The next morning I spoke to my boyfriend and he imdeiately told me it was a scam. If they would have been patient and waited for me to speak to my boyfriend. I could have saved them $500.

I received the exact same apartment emails as some of the other postings. Man, I was so desperate for a nice apartment that I almost fell for it until my boyfriend knocked some sense into me. I am so mad.

Thanks to all of you for posting about Rev. James Buckner. I was very wary from the start, then used Google to view the street address in Paris which he claimed was where his apartment was. It was a business district (which could have, and probably does have, apartments above the stores), but the neighborhood just didn’t match the photos they sent. Dicey neighborhood and then this immaculate/cosmopolitan apartment – wait I think I did see those photos in Cosmo:) Anyway, I answered the ad and received tons of b*lls**t emails from his “wife” who is in “New Jersey”, (while he is on a Christian Mission in West Africa) but can’t be reached by phone because she has problems with her telephone>:-o Wanted me to send two months’ rent (promising the third month free) and after they had received the money they would “DHL” the keys to me here in the states because they had no one they could leave them with in Paris. Hmmmm. Thank goodness for sites like this one and for Google. In my desperation to find an apartment in Paris I just might have fallen for this crap. TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE – BEWARE OF THIS CHARACTER AND OTHER FRAUDS LIKE HIM!!!!!!

They are now targetting parrots as well. Being aware of these scams I try to engage them in long meaningless email exchanges. But they made a blinding mistake on the parrot scam. The said it weighs 3lbs. Ever seen a 3 lb oven ready chicken? Damned site bigger than an African Grey. Anyway they sent a shipping notice using frames lifted from a genuine pet transport companies site.
Halfway down it changed from parrot to puppy. So I have emailed the idiot back telling him he is being scammed by the transport company he set up! He said they made a genuine mistake· I have informed him that no transport company ships a puppy as an animal, it would say dog! I love winding these people up!

The good reverend is back!!! My GF just got a response from him about an apartment in Paris posted on Craigslist and on FUSAC. As soon as we got the response it screamed “I’m another damn Nigerian scam artist!” so we did a search and voila. Thanks for this site and for confirming the nearly obvious. Apologies to all who have fallen prey to this man. On another note, I may be in West Africa this summer and I’ll see if I can track down the the honorable, kind, and good Mr. Buckner/Lowen/full of shit. We reported him to the FTC but you never know if that goes anywhere.
Hi, I have received 4 different emails saying they have puppies for me. Two from Africa, the other unknown and the other one from Michigan.
Since I made the mistake of giving my phone number when I was answering to the puppies add, the text me and sent me the email after offering Yorkshire teacup puppies and the other emails (from different names) where about maltese puppies. The Africans where asking for $100 for shipping (only that? like if where possible to ship a dog in that price) and the person from Michigan was asking for $155 for the papers.
Anyway, this is sad.
We have almost been caught with a similar dog one in UK, THANK YOU all who posted here, this guy is a FELIX ROUND, claiming a legitimate address in the Isle of Man [half-way between UK mainland and Ireland], very similar advert to the first listed at the top, for SNOW WHIT MALTESE puppies, found my daughter in her quest for a new pet. Even the following emails are very close, so they are not just operating in USA. I actually rang the guy first, mobile number, and spoke with a man with a thick African accent, probably Nigerian, as I have Nigerian friends, which immediately alerted me. Anyway, long story short, I continued with the idea, to see his reactions, we were going to take the last two, and I was going to pick them up, and even checked the price of the Ferry across to the IoM, which was well over £300. He insisted that if we couldn’t collect, we must pay the shipping before delivery, at £180 per dog. Needless to say, after consoling my daughter for over an hour, we are now looking for something closer to home, that we can go and see BEFORE we proceed, and I hope these HEARTLESS B**TARDS ROT IN HELL!

I just got scammed myself. The person called herself Mrs. Ashly Comouxe in Ohio. I found her on wellbredpets.com which I’ve been told might be in on the scan. I sent her $350.00 AFTER I was emailed by the pet transportation company, which I had looked up online and looked legit to me. And hour later I got another email from the agency saying the puppy was being held in Ohio because its life insurance had expired and I would have to send another 500.00 to have him shipped or I would face criminal charges for animal violation! Ofcourse I refused to send another cent, emailed the owner a few times, and then contacted the local police and a lawyer. NOthing can be done,t hey say. Nigerian puppy scam, they say. Now I am out $400.00 Canadian, and I don’thave the puppy that my five year old and I so badly wanted. The pet agency is called Royal Paws Pet City. I wired the money to a Tony NIckman in Damden, New Jersey. I feel like an idiot for buying into this. The woman swore to me, swore to god that she was legit. Wish I wouldhave found this site sooner.
